Ashco Building and Maintenance Services have been hired to install a level access shower in Soham for a disabled client to help give them a safe place to be able to wash and give back independence.
First the team removed everything from the old bathroom. This included shower, skirting, wash hand basin, old tiles and flooring.
Once the bathroom was bare a new door opening was started. They removed the existing door, architrave and frame. The door way was widened and the installation off a new 1000 wide sliding door by Eclisse sliding door systems was completed. The colour was picked by our client.
A new drainage area was installed. With this a new shower former was placed into the floor. Our clients chose an electrical shower unit that is thermostatically controlled with sliding rails, shower head and 2m flexible hose and soap dish. This also has illuminated double pole pull switch.
Behind the WC a new timber stud wall is installed made of timber boxing and plywood clad. The walls around the shower and splash back behind the WHB is prepared for new tiles to be laid. Our client has chosen white glazed wall tiles.
Next to be fitted was a mould resistant shower curtain, a shower seat and vertical and horizontal fluted non-rust, non-slip grab rails.
Last to be installed is new flooring. Our clients have chosen thick vinyl sheet flooring specifically designed for safety with wet, barefeet or soft footwear containing bacteriostat to minimise the growth of micro-organisms MRSA.
All of the differences made to our clients bathroom will give them a safer environment and more independence in everyday activities.
